COMPANY HISTORY AND PROFILE
1956 Westray Engineering established as the
1987 WFE/Westray purchased from the Stevens family by Delta Group Aust. Pty Ltd
1994 Geoff Simpson joins Westray as General Manager
1994 Westray gains Quality Accreditation to AS3902 – which later became AS/ISO9001-2000.
1997 The business was purchased by the current owners (Geoff & Wendy Simpson), who have continued to grow the business through:
o a wider range of products
o continued innovation
o attention to detail and on-time delivery performance
o promotion of Westray’s design and prototyping skills
1998 Westray’s Technical Manager (Leo Talevski), awarded the Australian Forging Group’s Merit Award, for “outstanding contribution to the Australian forging industry”.
1999 Westray commences supply of surgical implants – the Margron™ hip prosthesis, manufactured in chrome/cobalt alloy.
2000 Supply of the fist set of Australian made forged flight bars to Advanced Chain Technologies Pty Ltd, for use in the longwall coal mining industry.
2001 Westray commences supply of OEM automotive products. In subsequent years, customers include Drivetrain Systems International, Unidrive, Dana Spicer, APA Manufacturing, GAL Harrington and Hendersons Automotive.
2001 Westray commences supply of Twistlocks, used in cranes to lift shipping containers. This business expands to become Westray’s major product by 2008.
2002 Westray wins Energy
2002 Installation of Westray’s robotic forging cell to manufacture overdrive shafts for Drivetrain Systems International.
2002 Installation of Hasenclever Multiforge and National 1300T Maxipress.
2004 Formation of Alliance Tooling Co Pty Ltd, in partnership with Mr Craig Glenn.
2004 Decision taken to branch out into other metal products, so as to leverage off Westray’s good reputation in the market. Product range expanded to include castings, machined parts and fabricated items.
2008 Westray forms a strategic alliance with Kulthorn Metal Products (
